Teacher Development Courses

Every Child Can!

Violin Unit 1

Short-Term Teacher Workshops

To help train successful Suzuki teachers, the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA) has set up short term teacher development courses. The first step for teachers interested in studying the Suzuki philosophy, pedagogy, and other aspects of the method is to take the Every Child Can! (ECC) course. Subsequent training courses may be taken pertaining to each Book level.

Please click Teacher Training to review the SAA guidelines on “How to Become a Suzuki Teacher.”

Suzuki Book 1 Pre-Course Preparation for Teachers

It is recommended that participants listen to the Suzuki Book 1 recording by Hilary Hahn and memorize as much of the Book 1 repertoire as possible. Reading “Nurtured by Love” by Shinichi Suzuki before the course will be helpful.

All participants are expected to bring their own instruments, the International or Revised Suzuki Violin Book 1, a copy of “Nurtured by Love” by Shinichi Suzuki, the ECC manual, a copy of “The Suzuki Violinist” by William Starr, and a 1” binder for handouts and notepaper. Computers or tablets may be helpful for completing some observations and other assignments.

Attendance is required 100% of class time in order to register a course with the Suzuki Association of the Americas.
